Genie

One year ago, we experienced something unimaginable: our beloved Genie left us. The shock and feeling of helplessness were too overwhelming. From his happy morning jumps to his sudden collapse in the park across from our home, we never expected that night would be without him. Maybe it was the sudden departure, or perhaps it was because he was only three years old, and we always felt there were so many more enjoyable moments we could experience together. But regardless of the reasons, the sadness and the suffocating feeling were indescribable, and everything seemed meaningless without him around. ...

I am happy to share that I defended my PhD research at ETH Zürich last Thursday, March 9th! Many thanks to all my supervisors and reviewers — Prof. Dr Philippe Block, Prof. Dr Stelian Coros, Dr Tom Van Mele, and Prof. Dr Jan Knippers — for their endless support! Time flies! It has been a wonderful 4.5 years since I joined the Block Research Group, ETH Zurich in September 2018. I gained rich experience, learnt so much knowledge, and overcame several challenges. I enjoyed doing advanced interdisciplinary research in NCCR Digital Fabrication and Institute of Technology in Architecture, ETH Zurich. I was also fascinated by the courses I took during my Computer Science CAS degree at D-INFK, ETH Zürich, parallel to my PhD studies. ...

I am so happy to be invited by 浪浪別哭 (Lang Lang Don’t Cry) to share our story of adopting Genie from Taiwan to Switzerland! Without the help of the foster family, volunteers, dog ambassadors, and 浪浪別哭, it would have been very hard for Genie to make it all the way to Switzerland.
